Silvia Marchesan
Silvia Marchesan is Full Professor of Organic Chemistry at the University of Trieste, Italy. She obtained her PhD in Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh in 2008 and holds professional qualifications as Pharmaceutical Chemist (UK) and Pharmacist (Italy).
After her doctoral studies she held several international fellowships, including positions at University College London, the University of Helsinki as an Academy of Finland Fellow, and a CRSS Fellowship jointly between Monash University and CSIRO in Melbourne. In 2013 she returned to the University of Trieste, where she had previously completed her M.Sc. with honours, becoming Associate Professor in 2018 and Full Professor in 2025. She was a Visiting Academic at the University of Cambridge in 2021–2022. Professor Marchesan serves on the advisory boards of leading journals including ACS Nano, Chem, Journal of Materials Chemistry B, Chemistry – A European Journal and Materials Advances, and became Associate Editor of Chemical Communications in 2026.
Her work has received several international recognitions, including the RSC Soft Matter Lectureship (2021), the Vittorio Erspamer Award (2017), and being named among the Top-11 Rising Stars in the natural sciences worldwide by the Nature Index in 2018.
